The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Conference of the Parties (COP20), to be held in Lima, is an opportunity to build the largest alliance in History against global warming, said Peru’s President, Ollanta Humala.

The announcement was made on Friday during the presentation of the facilities, at which the main activities will take place.

“I call the international community. Today, [we] the leaders have the opportunity to build the largest alliance in History to the fight against global warming,” he claimed.

Organizing the conference has been considered a challenge.
“When Peru decided to meet this challenge, the country was conscious about what it meant to be the hosting nation,” Mr. Humala confessed.

Proper spaces required for activities such as: plenary sessions, conferences and press coverage have been launched, the President explained.

“We have done as much as possible to let Peru become, during the next 12 days, the epicenter of debate, discussion, reflection, and expression for those of us, who are interested in solving the global warming issue,” he stated.

The President was joined by the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Christiana Figueres; Environment minister, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal and Foreign Affairs minister, Gonzalo Gutierrez. Other Ministers of State later joined the stage for the official photo.
