The Peruvian Exorter’s Association (Adex) reported that fur and alpaca garments have a higher demand as export products, and their main export market now is New Zealand.

Adex’s head export manager, Ysabel Segura, says the concept of craftwork in Peru has been changing in time as exporters combine high level of quality and modernity in their products without losing the essence of the products.

In this sense, countries such as France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have shown a great interest in these goods and report a significant increase in their orders between January and August this year.

Even though the export market is diverse, in the sense that exports are being made to different countries, the main destination [for hand-crafted goods] is the United States, accounting for 45 percent of the total exports.

The main export products include garments knitted on semi-mechanical machines, hand-finished wooden furniture, dresses, blankets and textiles for home, for which demand has surged in the past two years.

It should be noted exports in this sub-sector have shown a cyclical pattern, as no product stands out from the rest.
