First Peru-U.S. High-Level Dialogue Mechanism meeting is being prepared

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has authorized Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister John Camino Cannock to travel to Washington, D.C., United States, from May 7 to 10, 2024, to participate in the first meeting of the High-Level Political Dialogue Mechanism between Peru and the United States, at the deputy ministerial level.

The authorization was officialized through Ministerial Resolution 0351-2024-RE, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Tuesday. 

This event will be held in the U.S. capital on May 9.

Background

The High-Level Political Dialogue Mechanism between Peru and the United States was established in June 2022.

It includes five thematic pillars: democratic governance and migration; cooperation for economic prosperity and inclusive development; environmental protection; security and defense; plus, culture and education.

On March 14, 2024, during the meeting between Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, it was agreed to hold the first meeting of this mechanism on May 9 of the current year.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Camino Cannock will lead the Peruvian delegation to participate in this event.

Additionally, it is established that the deputy minister must submit, within 15 calendar days following his return to Peru, a detailed report of the actions taken and the results achieved during the trip.
