Peru: Ticket sales to visit Machu Picchu from June 1 have begun

10:36 | Lima, May. 21.

The Ministry of Culture on Monday evening reported that the sale of tickets to visit the llaqta or Inca city of Machu Picchu during the high season of 2024 has started.

Said season runs from June 1 to October 15 and from December 30 to 31.

On that occasion, the capacity will increase from 4,500 to a maximum of 5,600 visitors per day.

Thus, an additional 1,100 tickets are offered on the tuboleto.cultura.pe platform. Visitors will be allowed to tour three circuits.

This increase in capacity is part of the "Protocol for the management of visits to the llaqta or Inca city of Machu Picchu during the high visitor season," which was approved on May 13.

Previously-purchased tickets remain valid for entry to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, and visitors will be allowed to tour it through circuits, the Culture sector specified.

Reactivation

Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga expressed confidence in receiving a greater number of visitors to continue reactivating Cusco region and the rest of Peru.

“A few months ago, we decided jointly that the high season run from June 1 to October 15, which coincides with global vacations. We know that we have (receive) a greater influx, and I hope that this year we will regain that number of visitors from previous periods," she indicated.

The tolerance time will be increased for this high season.

"The entry time to each circuit is the one stated on the entry ticket. There is a 30-minute tolerance for entry to the Machu Picchu llaqta in low season and 45 minutes in high season (15 minutes for entry are added). After this period, visitors are not allowed to enter the llaqta, except for reasons of force majeure or duly-proven fortuitous event," the protocol states.

This protocol aims to establish guidelines to guarantee the protection and preservation of the archaeological heritage, as well as to ensure an optimal visiting experience to the Machu Picchu llaqta during high visitor season.

Cusco citizens will continue to enter Machu Picchu free of charge on Sundays.
