Mining companies Cerro Verde (Arequipa region) and Las Bambas (Apurimac) led Peru's copper production in the January-April 2017 period, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.
The Inca country's copper output totaled 733,000 fine metric tons (FMT) in the
first four months of 2017, thus increasing 2.4% over the same period in 2016 (678,000 FMT).
In a recent study note, BCR reveals said expansion "was mainly explained by greater production at
Las Bambas and
Cerro Verde."
Cerro Verde, despite leading copper output in the analyzed period at 150,000 FMT, saw a 2.7% decrease compared to the same period the year before.
On the other hand, runner-up
Las Bambas' 148,000 FMT result meant a staggering 177.1% rise over the same period in 2016.
Next in line were Antamina (Ancash region) at 127,000 FMT, Southern Peru (Moquegua and Tacna) at 88,000 FMT, Antapaccay (Cusco) at 62,000 FMT and Toromocho (Junin) at 53,000 FMT.
These were followed by Constancia (Cusco) at 37,000 FMT, Milpo (Ancash and Huancavelica) at 14,000 FMT, El Brocal (Cerro de Pasco) at 14,000 FMT and Gold Fields La Cima (Cajamarca) at 10,000 FMT.
