Peruvian President Ollanta Humala announced that expansion of focused social programs and a growing economy will help reduce the country’s poverty rate to 15 percent by 2016.
The Peruvian leader disclosed that social program Pensión 65, which gives a state-funded pension to people over 65 that have no other pension source and live in extreme poverty- will benefit 430,000 this year.

"Elderly people who lack the basic conditions needed to survive are not alone. Pension 65 plans to target 430,000 people by year-end," Humala said during his speech to the nation on the occasion of Peru's Independence Day.

Likewise, he pointed out that cash transfer program Juntos will help assist over 840,000 families living in extreme poverty, while school feeding program Qali Warma will reach three million children in 2014.

Furthermore, Humala noted that in the remaining period of his term Cuna Mas -which provides comprehensive care for children aged 0 to 3 years- is expected to benefit 70,000 more children.
