11:27 Peruvian vice president calls for calm as ICJ verdict looms
Lima, Jan. 21 (ANDINA). Peruvian Vice President Marisol Espinoza has asked all citizens to avoid "moments of tension" before the judgment is issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the context of the maritime boundary dispute between Chile and Peru.

In a recent statement, Espinoza called to await the delivery of the decision "calmly and quietly".

"It is a time for unity, reflection, tranquility; we call on all citizens and political forces that have shown that Peru is in the first place," she was quoted as saying by

The decision will be announced this Monday, January 27.

When asked about the meeting at Chile's National Security Council, Espinoza said that it was a call under "its powers, jurisdiction and sovereignty."

The vice president said that once the sentence is known, an agenda would be set later in Peru and Chile.

"There is agreement on supporting the Executive in the demand and in the post-Hague agenda, and it is important to stress it, the work of the monitoring group has been recognized and the feeling of unity before the sentence has been renewed," she concluded.
