The production of textiles in Peru expanded 2.3 percent in the first half of 2014, following a 2 percent gain in June, according to data released on Wednesday by the National Society of Industries (SNI).

The report says textile production growth was mainly backed by an increased production of both the textile finishing sub-sector -which gained 35.1 percent- and the preparation and spinning of textile fibers sub-sector -which increased by 8.6 percent.

In this sense, SNI said the two sub-industries are vital to determine the variation of textile production rate.

Production of the textile industry is based on the use of different raw materials such as Pima cotton, Tanguis cotton, Hazera cotton, Cerro cotton and Upland cotton, which is mainly imported from the United States.

Likewise, it is also based on the use of sheep wool and fine animal hair, as well as synthetic and artificial filaments and fibers.

The manufacturing process of textile products is one of the most important within the textile industry, as it generates direct and indirect jobs, boosts the country's productive development and uses new technology to achieve greater efficiency in production.
