Peru: Presidency underscores strengthening of fight against drug trafficking

15:18 | Lima, Apr. 18.

The President's Office on Thursday affirmed that the Government strengthens the fight against narco-trafficking, through an initiative submitted by the Executive Branch to resume flights aimed at intercepting suspicious aircraft.

Earlier today, Congress approved Draft Legislative Resolution No. 6672, which allows for an agreement between Peru and the United States to implement a covenant aimed at combating the misuse, production, and illegal trafficking of drugs, through aerial interception with related assistance from the North American country.

"The Government strengthens the fight against narco-trafficking. The bill submitted by the Executive Branch, which will allow for the resumption of aerial interception of aircraft suspected of transporting drugs, was approved by the Congress of the Republic," it indicated.

This rule will facilitate greater collaboration between Peru and the United States in the fight against drug trafficking.

This will be possible through financial support to our country, radar data, as well as operational, training, intelligence, and logistics assistance, among others.
