Peru: Gov't agrees to extend state of emergency in Apurimac's Chalhuanca

20:55 | Chalhuanca (Apurimac region), mar. 18.

The Council of Ministers has agreed to extend the state of emergency for 60 days in the district of Chalhuanca in Aymaraes province, Apurimac region, due to the heavy rains in the area, Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen reported on Monday.

"The Government seeks to provide support, through machinery. Likewise, it aims to implement temporary solutions primarily for the supply of drinking water to affected populations," Adrianzen said following today's Council of Ministers session.

On the other hand, he reported that the Peruvian National Police (PNP) remains committed to the implementation of actions to ensure security in said region.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief noted the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) is offering technical assistance and monitoring the actions that must be undertaken in the area.

He also affirmed that the government's response to heavy rains is multidimensional and that action is taken on different fronts with the purpose of serving the population affected by the impact of rainfall.

"I want to be very emphatic; the Central Government’s coordination with local, provincial, and district governments is intensive. So far this year, we have dealt with 520 road emergencies," he said.

Adrianzen indicated that addressing these emergencies in different regions has required the use of more than 74,000 gallons of fuel.

Furthermore, he highlighted that more than 4,700 agricultural producers and over 2 million citizens have been compensated; adding that water, as well as tons of food and non-food aid has been distributed.
