Peru renews commitment to strengthening bilateral relationship with Costa Rica

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that today, April 4, Peru celebrates 172 years of diplomatic relations with Costa Rica, a vital Central American partner and friendly nation with which Peru maintains solid and historical ties.

In this regard, it renewed Peru's commitment to further strengthening the bilateral relationship with said country.

"On this special occasion, Peru renews its commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship even further, seeking the development of our populations," reads a post by the government agency on X.

The first diplomatic agent of Costa Rica in Peru was Chargé d'Affaires Gregorio G. Escalante y Nava, who on April 25, 1852 signed the first Peruvian-Costa Rican bilateral agreement with Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Joaquin de Osma.

The first diplomatic agent of Peru in Costa Rica was Minister Plenipotentiary Pedro Galvez, who was recognized on January 22, 1857 and sent to Costa Rica by Peruvian President Ramon Castilla, to demonstrate Peru's solidarity and support for the Central American country against the filibuster threat.
