Peru's central bank sells $3 million; sol weakens

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru intervened in the foreign-exchange market Wednesday to sell US$3 million at an average rate of PEN2.880 per U.S dollar.

The central bank intervenes to smooth out volatility in the exchange market.

Meanwhile, Peru's sol currency ended stronger Wednesday at PEN2.871 per U.S. dollar compared with PEN2.876 in the previous trading session.

So far this year the sol has depreciated 2.54 percent against the U.S. dollar.

In the last 12-month period, the Peruvian currency has weakened 3.95 percent against the greenback.
