Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said the Executive will hold talks with members of the opposition party to discuss issues like the granting of special legislative powers.
The Peruvian leader stressed the need to enhance political dialogue and avoid confrontation.
"I hope we will meet again over the next weeks, for Christmas. We will form groups of 4-6 or 2-3 members per side. We already have an agenda. There are very urgent matters to deal with: most of the powers requested by the Prime Minister are related to the
fight against corruption," he told RPP radio and news station.
Another important issue, he said, has to do with the
economic recovery. Plus, the idea is not to curb investment with the present tax and penalty system that is not well understood.
Peru's top official highlighted the need to work on the clean-up of
Lake Titicaca and Sullana sewage pipes —initiatives that depend on a high-priority law submitted to Parliament, which awaits attention of lawmakers.
The President recalled that his administration has been very open to dialogue and has held meetings with opposition leader
Keiko Fujimori.
