Peru PM: The country is not paralyzed, economy to grow this year

Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz on Monday said Peru is not paralyzed, highlighting its economy will expand in 2018.

The also Second Vice-President noted the Government continues working for the benefit of all citizens.

"We will continue working for all Peruvians. We are not paralyzed," the government official told ATV.

"The country will grow this year. We are seeing new investments, possibilities for important mining ventures like Michiquillay, Corani […]," she added.

Likewise, Araoz highlighted the chances to increase formal employment through small and medium-sized enterprises.

She also pointed out the need to allow the Government to work and "not to torment it with endless debates" and that can generate doubts among investors.

Furthermore, Araoz expressed her critical view on the issue of a presidential impeachment motion, discussed at Congress once again.

In that sense, she expects reflection, adding the country must defend democracy and the period of time, for which President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was elected for office (2016-2021).
