Peru and the Organization of American States (OAS) are consistent allies when it comes to strengthening democratic institutions and respecting human rights, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed Friday.
Speaking at a press conference, the Head of State said Peru welcomes the multilateral organization's commitment to better democratic governance in the Inca country.
"We have
discussed with Luis Almagro the importance of democratic governance in Peru, and we welcomed his offer to help strengthen our institutions," he noted.
Mr. Kuckzysnki remarked Peru has worked hard to make meaningful progress in terms of democratic institutions, continuity of the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
For this reason, he continued, the country has been chosen as venue of the
Summit of the Americas, to be held in Lima on April 13-14.
He underscored the
Summit will address two key topics: corruption and democratic governance.
Plus, he said it will be a success with the support and commitment of the OAS.
