More than 14,000 tourists have so far this year visited Colca Valley, one of the best-known tourist hubs in Southern Peru, Caylloma Province Mayor Romulo Tinta informed.
This figure is positive for the sector, taking into account the number of visitors usually decreases significantly at this time of the year.
"In January last year, 10,000 tourists visited Colca Valley, but the month is not over yet, and more than 14,000 visitors have already arrived in the area […]," he expressed.
It must be noted Colca Valley's
tourist inflow is low at this time of the year due to the usual heavy rainfall, landslides, and mud on the roads, among other weather-related difficulties.
In this regard, Tinta noted that —despite climatic conditions— tourist arrivals are satisfactory, so authorities will be vigilant to provide assistance in case of emergency.
Lastly, he projected Colca Valley will receive
300,000 tourists thru year-end thanks to the promotion efforts undertaken at national and international levels.
It must be noted the valley currently receives between 400 and 500 visitors per day.
