The Lima 2019 Pan-American Games are expected to generate US$300 million for the capital’s economy, President of the Bureau of Convention and Visitors Lima Carlos Canales informed on Tuesday.
"Our calculations show the
Pan-American Games, meaning athletes and visitors' inflows, will result in nearly US$300 million for the city of Lima," Canales told Andina news agency.
Lima is set to welcome 100,000 visitors, including managers, athletes, trainers, immediate family and those accompanying the different delegations.
"This will generate a great deal of economic dynamism; in fact, tourists and fans [not athletes] altogether will spend at least US$150 million while in Lima," he added.
Athletes' expenses will be covered by the Peruvian State. However, the money will remain in the capital city.
"Needs at the Olympic Village [food, transportation and services] shall be met, resulting in increased revenues for the city," he explained.
