Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo reiterated that the negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Peru and India are moving forward.
Similarly, the government official emphasized that said agreement is expected to be completed this year.
"We have made significant progress, and we hope to sign the Free Trade Agreement with India in the course of this year," she stated.
Likewise, Galdo underscored that Peruvian exports increased 9.1% in the first two months (January-February) of 2024, and that regional sales experienced a growth of 10.5%.
"We are aware that we still have a way to go, mainly in the manufacturing sector, but we are committed to ensuring that our exports will continue to improve," she said.
Regarding the war situation in the Middle East, the State minister pointed out that this area is not a primary destination for Peruvian exports, although she noted that an armed conflict could affect the global economy.
"Our exports predominantly go to the United States and some European countries, but of course a war always affects the issue of gasoline or the U.S. dollar at the macro level, which can have repercussions; however, we hope that the situation in the Middle East will improve, for the good of all," she underlined.
Her remarks were delivered on Tuesday after the official launch of Peru Moda Deco and Alpaca Fiesta 2024.
