Peru will take any action it may deem necessary in case Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro arrives in Lima for the Summit of the Americas this April, Foreign Affairs Minister Cayetana Aljovin affirmed.
"I do not like to speculate, I never do it, and I will not do it now. We will make the decision we deem appropriate if that happens," she told Univision.
The government official recalled the
withdrawal of Maduro's invitation was due to the crisis in Venezuela. This is supported by the Declaration of Quebec City, which states that countries disrespecting democratic order cannot participate in said event.
Aljovin also reiterated the
Summit of the Americas will address key topics such as governance and fight against corruption. Likewise, this event will seek to establish concrete measures, which
can be reviewed by citizens.
Lastly, Aljovin noted U.S. President Donald Trump's participation in the
Summit of the Americas is still not confirmed.
