Bernd Lange, Chair of the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament (INTA), has expressed his support to the Peruvian Government in reconsidering the presence of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro at the coming Summit of the Americas in Lima.

"We have supported, and we support —of course— the decision made by the Lima Group in regard to Mr. Nicolas Maduro," Lange said during a press conference joined by other EU parliamentarians.

In this sense, the INTA head reiterated the European Parliament's stance on the situation in Venezuela, as stated in its resolution

Lange also said Venezuelan migrants arriving in Colombia and Peru ought to receive further support from the European Union.

As is known, the Inca nation has withdrawn the invitation previously extended to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to attend the 8th Summit of the Americas taking place in Lima in April.

The decision was announced by Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Cayetana Aljovin and later backed by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski
