He noted that the new ministry will be responsible for social programs and work to turn them into productive tools for the benefit of the poor.

Lerner said that one of its objectives will be to create the conditions so that beneficiaries of the Juntos program use the subsidy as a "financial leverage" to improve their quality of life.

In addition, the new portfolio will be in charge of Juntos, Pension 65 and Cuna Mas, main social programs promoted by the government of President Ollanta Humala, under its policy of promoting social inclusion.

"Programs that were part of the electoral campaign and President Ollanta Humala’s road map are to be executed and implemented through the creation of this new ministry," he said at a press conference held late Wednesday at the Government Palace.

The head of Production, Kurt Burneo, who will take on the new portfolio, pointed out that his role will be to formulate, plan, implement, evaluate and monitor the national and sectoral policy on social development and inclusion.
