Lima, Oct. 14 (ANDINA).- Peruvian chess player Jorge Cori broke the world record achieving the coveted title of the world's youngest Grandmaster (GM) at 14 years old.
Jorge Cori got this achievement thanks to his good performance in recent tournaments in which he participated and won two Grandmaster norms in the Continental Absolute Chess Championship Americas 2009 in Brazil and now in the International Master Championship Marcel Duchamp held in Argentina.
"These last months have been crucial in my training," said Jorge Cori.
Cori's participation for obtaining the title of Grand Master required of three months of preparation in Europe where he toured privately with Spanish Javier Moreno.
Meanwhile, his sister Daysi, which already holds at age 16 the title of GM, has now entered the ranking of the 80 best chess players in the world and is recognized as one of the best players in the adult category. Her goal now is to be among the 20 best in the world.
