The “energetic reaction assumed by the Peruvian government and the actions, which are being adopted in regard to the sensitive affair, respond to a clear and unanimous position of the [Peruvian] State,” affirmed today Peru’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Gonzalo Gutierrez.

By constitutional Mandate, the direction of the country’s foreign policy corresponds to the Republic’s President, pointed out Gutierrez in remarks to Andina news agency.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry is the organization in charge of its formulation and execution under the guidelines of the Head of State, he added.

In this sense, the Chancellor highlighted “in every affair of [Peru’s] foreign policy, and especially in those linked to the neighborly relations, there are solid and coherent positions of the Peruvian government, which are exclusively based on State considerations and a clear defense of the national interest, which is headed by the President of the Republic.”

In regard to the Chilean espionage case, the Minister informed the situation is being assessed, in order to propose President Humala the next steps to follow concerning the diplomatic response issued by the Chilean government.

It has been considered “insufficient” by the Peruvian government.
