Peru's National Bank Association (Asbanc) announced November banking sector arrears fell 2.46%, a 0.01 percentage point decrease compared to October, but a 0.28 percent point increase in comparison to November 2013.

“Last November results confirm our observations concerning the stabilization of the arrears ratio in recent months,” Asbanc stated.

It is worth mentioning the upward trend emerged in the past few years is explained in the context of economic slowdown, which affected the payment capacity of agents (people and companies) that obtained financing from banks as they foresaw better economic conditions.

The institution attributed the fall in arrears to a reduced delay on payments for consumer, mortgage, and microenterprise start up loans by 0.12, 0.02 and 0.08 percentage points, respectively.

However, this improvement was limited by an increase in loan arrears of large and small businesses of 0.03 and 0.10 percentage points, respectively.

November’s delay in payment of corporate and medium company loans did not show any significant variation compared to October’s.
