He highlighted the implementation of the New Anti-Drug Strategy of the Peruvian government for the 2012-2016 period, which calls for a comprehensive approach that includes control of chemicals, prevention, alternative development and goals, as well as indicators for reducing the illicit cultivation of coca leaf.
"We are offering more financial support. We are aware that we have a shared responsibility. Europe is the largest importer of these 'products' such as cocaine, and we want to support Peru's strategy to combat drugs," Allden told Andina news agency.
The EU official said the European Union is committed to the strategy's implementation.
He said that the bloc is considering to provide Peru's National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) with more than 34 million euros in the coming years to fight drug trafficking.
Allden underlined Peru's ambitious effort to combat this scourge on several fronts including, in addition to the interdiction and eradication of illegal coca leaf through alternative crops, control of precursor chemicals, prevention and money laundering.
